Paint-A-Home 2007

Being tasked to report on the happenings yesterday. Yes, the foursome has once unite and went to the NUS CSC Special Poject - Paint A Home. This is the first time most of us participate in this event with the exception of ah jun who went last year. This year event is more exciting as the main comm consist of mainly Yishuners. ah Jun and ah kuang are both in the logistics and marketing this time round. Benny got other commitments while i too lazy to join such things. Hehe... You really need a lot of commitment to participate in such projects.

Anyway, yesterday was an enjoyable day. We gathered at Bishan Mrt around 9a.m. Surprised tt ah Kuang was not late, but Benny was late as usual. Had a long briefing in the Bishan Home for the Intellectual-Disabled upon arrival. I did not register for the project. Hence i just join Benny's grp. Who to blame for this??? #%$@*! Anyway, Together with hua jie, e three of us were tasked with our grp members to paint the LF room. Why is it called the Low Function room, i also dunno... Everything went chop chop and we managed to finish one layer by lunch. Anyway, most of our grp memebrs were jc students and there was not much interactions with them.

After lunch, six of our grp were spilted to participate with the 'interactions' with the residents while the rest continued painting. It was a scary sight for most of us when the residents came in. Their behavior are not something we would normally see. Most are quite friendly as they would offer to shake hands. Others would just wonder round aimlessly or some just sit quietly in one corner. I even notice one resident who kept folding her bedsheets throughout the sessions. You do feel for them if you ever see such scenes. Most was never given a choice. So let us treasure watever is given to us.

We played a few simple games such as passing the parcel, musical chairs.... Benny, his friend and i were entertained by this female resident during the game session. She offered to shake our hands upon seeing us. See guys she would say yan dao kea, see gals she would say swee. Dunno why she say i look like her uncle? #$%@ Heard from benny friend tt while she was fiddling with benny friend's hairs, she ask her to call her grandma. Interesting man this lady. Haha. Later during the tea-break, those residents doing handicraft downstairs came to join us. One uncle resident came to shake my hand. I happily say "Nice to meet you" and all of a sudden he give me a hug. It caught me by surprise but it does feels good after tt. We then move out of the hall to learn some dance steps from the YMCA people. But we siam after tt to go back to the LF room. The intial drawing were beautifully drawn on the walls by then. Hence our task were susposedly end for the day. Our grp dispersed. Went to look for ah jun they all. Then decide to help them out in the sai gan. Washing those stupid brushes and rollers took a really damm long time with onli one water source at the water point.

Went to Junction 8 1st to wait for ah jun and ah kuang. The five of us: me, ah pek, hua jie, benny, and his friend i think call Pei Pei had a drink at the Mac while waiting for them. We chit chat and talk abt the happenings for the day. Later, we had dinner at Pasta-Mania. Nowadays, very hard to decide on place to eat since beeny is a vegetarian till 8 June. Went home after tt. Till next Saturday shall we continued on our adventure.
